Leicester City sit top of the Premier League table after an impressive 3-0 win against Newcastle at St James’ Park.

Goals from Jamie Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki ensured it was an easy afternoon for the visitors. Newcastle were woeful throughout.

Claudio Ranieri made one change to the side which were victorious over Watford before the international break. Leonardo Ulloa coming in for Jeffrey Schlupp.

The opening forty minutes was closely contested between the two sides. Vardy went close after five minutes, but his shot was closed down by Ayoze Perez in the Newcastle penalty area. Two minutes later, Riyad Mahrez went close but once again, Newcastle managed to block the shot.

With a minute to go until the interval, Ulloa found Vardy who fired past Rob Eliot in the Newcastle goal.

The second half was a one-sided affair with Leicester dominating proceedings. The Foxes doubled their lead through Ulloa. Mahrez’s cross found Ulloa at the back post who headed past Eliot in the Newcastle goal. Ranieri’s side secured all three points with 8 minutes to go, Okazaki poking home from close range.

Leicester now sit top of the Premier League table and welcome Manchester United to the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening.
