Leicester complete signing of German World Cup winner
Leicester City have completed the signing of Hannover goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler.
Zieler completed a medical with the club at the weekend and is Claudio Ranieri’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old will move to the King Power Stadium for a reported £2.6 million fee.
The German World Cup winner began his career at Manchester United, making 0 appearances, however, was loaned out to Northampton, playing just two times.
Zieler moved to Bundesliga side Hannover in 2010, a regular starter for the German side.
He was selected in Joachim Löw’s 23-man squad which won the World Cup in 2014 but did not feature.
Zieler is highly-rated amongst German fans, making the most saves of any goalkeeper in the Bundesliga last season but is likely to play second fiddle to Kasper Schmeichel.
Leicester may adopt a Barcelona-esque system where Kasper Schmeichel plays all 38 league matches whilst Zieler plays European and domestic cup matches.
