Match Preview: Celtic vs. Leicester
After picking up their first win of pre-season against Oxford United on Tuesday, Leicester head to Celtic Park for the first game of their International Champions Cup campaign.
The Foxes, as the champions of England, will face the champions of Scotland in Celtic, the champions of France in Paris Saint-Germain and champions of Spain in Barcelona. Leicester’s pre-season concludes with the traditional curtain raiser to the Premier League season as Leicester take on the FA Cup winners in Manchester United, managed by Jose Mourinho.
Celtic’s preparations under Brendan Rodgers are well underway due to the how early their UEFA Champions League qualifiers take place. Despite losing 1-0 away to Lincoln Red Imps, the Glasgow giants responded at home and progressed into the next round of qualifiers and are one step closer to the group stages, which the Foxes will enter as top seeds.
Leicester got their pre-season campaign underway against Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday evening with Claudio Ranieri giving debuts to new summer signings Luis Hernandez, Ahmed Musa and Ron-Robert Zieler.
Tuesday also saw some of Leicester’s hottest academy prospects on show with Hamza Choudhury impressing.
Celtic will provide much stiffer competition than Oxford did, it will give Ranieri another chance to test out his new signings and improve the fitness of his squad ahead of defending the Premier League title on August 13 against newly-promoted Hull City.
