Danny Drinkwater joins Chelsea
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City for a reported fee of £35 million.
As per the club’s official website, the midfielder joined Chelsea on a five-year deal.
Drinkwater has been sounded out by the club throughout the summer as Antonio Conte went in search of adding depth to his Chelsea squad.
Having sold Nemanja Matic to Manchester United this summer and with Tiemoue Bakayoko arriving at Stamford Bridge while still recovering from an injury, the Blues had been light in the middle of the park.
Chelsea were said to be interested in signing the player last summer and had their eyes on a double swoop for both Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante, however the Foxes were unwilling to sell both players.
Drink water played a key role, partnering Kante in midfield in the Leicester team that famously lifted the Premier League trophy under Claudio Ranieri.
