Leicester City boss Claude Puel has confirmed that defender Filip Benkovic is likely to see out the rest of his loan spell with Celtic.

As reported by STV, Puel revealed that a return to the King Power is unlikely for the Croatian.

We have a lot of defenders at the club. Assuming we don’t get any injuries, it’s better Filip maintains his loan at Celtic.

Benkovic joined the club on a season-long loan over the summer, with game time at the King Power unlikely.

After it was rumoured that the defender could be on his way back to the Premier League, Puel kept his cards close to his chest.

Benkovic has been impressing since joining Celtic on loan and there were suggestions he could make an early return.

With concerns over the immediate future of Dedryck Boyata and Jack Hendry looking set to leave on loan, the ability to keep hold of Benkovic will come as a major boost to the Hoops.

While he may not return to Leicester early, Benkovic is being tipped to push for a first-team spot at the King Power next season.
