Sidnei Tavares, one of Leicester City’s hottest youth prospects, will represent the Portugal under-18s at the La Manga tournament taking place in Spain over the upcoming weekend.
The vast majority of the country’s players represent Portuguese giants SL Benfica, Sporting Braga, FC Porto and Sporting CP at club level, but Tavares is one of just two names playing outside of their home country to be called up to the 20-man squad.
Portugal kick off their campaign against Poland on Friday before playing against Slovakia and Norway, and the 17-year-old will look to impress in a side he’s played in once before, as well as featuring for the under-19s.
A number of top tier clubs have been linked with Leicester’s central midfield starlet over the past year, with reports claiming Everton, Porto and Lazio are front-runners in terms of interest.
It wouldn’t be overly surprising to see interested parties sending scouts to the La Manga tournament to get a closer look at the young talent.
Tavares is yet to sign a professional contract at the King Power Stadium and has predominantly represented the Foxes at under-18 level, where he helped the side to a FA Youth Cup quarter-final last week.
