Leicester City manager Claude Puel has confirmed that midfielder Marc Albrighton is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

As reported on the official club website, the winger picked up a hamstring injury during training before their Premier League clash with Manchester United last week.

The Englishman is set to undergo reparative surgery on his hamstring and that could mean that he will not return until the season is over.

Puel said:

We now know [more about] the injury to Marc. He’s had a serious hamstring injury. It’s bad news for us, for the team, and I think he will not be available until the end of the season.

Marc gives the team spirit and aggressiveness. We will have to find another balance in the team so we will see.

It’s a bad thing for him and for us but it will be an opportunity for another player to show his quality and we’ll have to manage this situation. He will have surgery.

Albrighton is a fan favourite, especially because of his work rate and determination. Rachid Ghezzal is now expected to get more first-team action.
