Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers spoke to the media ahead of his first home match as Foxes boss on Saturday when Fulham visit the King Power Stadium.
Rodgers’ first game in charge ended in frustrating fashion as his side conceded a goal in added time to lose 2-1 at Watford last Sunday.
The defeat all but ended Leicester’s Europa League hopes as it now leaves them still in 11th place, eight points off Wolves and Watford.
During the week news emerged that the former Celtic manager’s house in Glasgow had been broken into and robbed while his wife and daughter were present.
The robbery was one of the topics Rodgers discussed, other talking points included the fitness of Jamie Vardy following an injury against Watford, transfer rumours linking Leicester to Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, his first home game in charge and out of contract players.
Here is what the Leicester manager had to say…
On the burglary
News broke out Wednesday morning that the former Celtic manager’s home in Glasgow had been broken into. His wife and daughter were in the property at the time but no injuries have been reported.
“It’s obviously something that’s not nice for any family to go through. As I said it gave the girls a fright.
“The last 10 days there’s been a lot of talk about my move to here. I don’t want to detract from an amazing time we had in Glasgow. The experiences we had there were amazing on and off the field. We don’t want to let the last 10 days cloud any of that.
“We’ve dealt with it, we’ve had lots of support. They’re both safe.
“It’s an unfortunate incident, it’s sad for the girls – for someone to come in the night – it’s horrendous really, I just made sure they were secure up there.
“We are looking to buy a home here in Leicester. They will move down very soon. We will throw our lives into here and I look forward to that.”
On the fitness of Jamie Vardy
Leicester striker Jamie Vardy was forced off of the pitch at Vicarage Road last weekend after it appeared he was suffering effects from a clash of heads with Watford keeper Ben Foster.
“He’s fine, he obviously had a bad knock. He had a couple of stitches in his tongue. But he should be fine for the weekend.
“It was just from the knock, but it hasn’t stopped him talking!”
On Morelos transfer rumours
Leicester have recently been linked with a move for Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos who has scored 24 goals in the Scottish Premiership this season.
“I think someone is trying to wind someone up.
“I never will comment on speculation of any player. My focus is on the group we have now, whether we can focus and get better as a group and then with the summer, we will look to strengthen and improve then.
“We understand where the team needs improving and we’ll look at the squad over the remainder of the season to see. Every year we want to improve and that’s something we’ll look at in the summer.”
On his first home game
This weekend Leicester welcome Fulham to the King Power Stadium, the game will be Rodgers first in charge of the Foxes.
“I’m so excited about the game because in my experience of coming here with Swansea and Liverpool, the atmosphere and the intensity in the stadium when the team was going to win the league was excellent.
“It’s going to be important for us. It’s the first steps of a really exciting journey for us.
“This has to be a difficult place to come. I’ve seen somewhere that in the calendar the team has only won five games at home, we have to change that.”
On the out of contract players
Leicester have a number of veteran players who will be out of contract at the end of the season, including club captain Wes Morgan, Shinji Okazaki, Danny Simpson and Christian Fuchs.
“I’m interested in it. It’s important for me to understand the situation and where each player is at.
“We have to respect their history here and what they’ve achieved but we have to plan forward and see where they can contribute.”
