Brendan Rodger’s got off to a winning start at the King Power Stadium as his first home game as Leicester boss ended in a 3-1 win over Fulham.
Leicester dominated the first half, the away side failed to even get a shot off in the opening 45 minutes.
The opening goal came as Wilfred Ndidi won the ball back in the Fulham half and instantly played a ball through for Jamie Vardy to run into the box who then unselfishly played the ball across to Youri Tielemans to calmly put the ball into an empty net for his first Leicester goal.
It looked like it might turn into another frustrating afternoon for Leicester as with their first shot of the game Fulham equalised as Ayité’s attempt deflected of Harry Maguire leaving Kasper Schmeichel helpless.
The goal gave revived the away side, they started to get a foot in the game. Then James Maddison played a ball through the Fulham backline and Vardy ran onto it and finished well in his typical fashion.
The goal was Vardy’s 100th for Leicester and he didn’t have to wait much longer for his 101st. Hervey Barnes beat his man on the wing and squared the ball to Vardy who placed it in the bottom corner.
The goal finished the game off for Leicester who came away with their first win under Brendan Rodgers.
Kasper Schmeichel - 6
Didn’t have much to do, Fulham didn’t have a single shot on goal in the first half. He couldn’t do much to keep the goal out either as it deflected off of Harry Maguire.
Ricardo Pereira - 7
Ricardo played well defensively throughout and was much more of a threat going forwards than he was last week against Watford. The change in formation back to a four-man defence gave him the overlap threat which he put to use. Made a couple of brilliant solo runs up the length of the pitch and worked hard to recover the ball.
Jonny Evans - 7
Put in a solid performance at the back. Didn’t really put a foot wrong, dealt with Mitrovic’s aerial threat well.
Harry Maguire - 6
Like Evans put in a good display in defence. The Fulham goal did get deflected in off of him but there wasn’t much he could have done about it.
Ben Chilwell - 5
Had a decent first half but made a lot of mistakes in the second. He let Ayité get past him for Fulham’s only goal and gave the ball away a couple of times with poor passes.
Wilfred Ndidi - 8
Ndidi won back possession countless times and was quick to turn the defence into attack. He played a big part in Leicester’s opener, winning the ball back and immediately playing Vardy through to set up Tielemans.
Youri Tielemans - 8
Tielemans coolly put home his first Leicester goal. His vision and passing was excellent. The interplay between him and James Maddison was great to watch.
Demrai Gray - 5
Started the game slow, poor touches and passes giving the ball away a couple of times and didn’t really contribute too much to the Foxes’ attack.
James Maddison - 8
Maddison and Tielemans showed their quality on the ball when playing the ball back and forth between each other. He played another great ball through to Vardy to set up Leicester’s second.
Harvey Barnes - 7
Played well down the left wing for Leicester. Again was a constant threat with his direct play, he really picked up the pace of the side’s attacks when on the ball. Got a good assist for Vardy’s second and was unlucky not to score, had a great effort saved well.
Jamie Vardy - 9
Two goals and an assist for Vardy, he unselfishly played the ball across to Tielemans for the opening goal. He then went on to score his 100th and 101st goals for Leicester in the second half.
Shinji Okazaki - 6
Came off the bench and pressed well out of possession. Got into a couple of good positions to score but couldn’t quite find the net.
Rachid Ghezzal - 6
Subbed on for Gray and did what he needed to do. Kept possession well and did his job defensively.
Nampalys Mendy - 6
Was a late sub for James Maddison, as Rodger’s looked to hold onto the lead. Worked very hard in defence and won the ball back well.
