Morgan in line for new contract offer
Leicester City captain Wes Morgan is set to be awarded a new contract at the King Power later this week.
The 35-year old centre-back will be offered a one-year contract extension, which he is expected to sign, capping off a stellar week for the Premier League winner.
Morgan scored a last minute winner against Burnley on Saturday, with the Foxes having been forced to play the majority of the game with 10-men, after Harry Maguire was sent off inside five minutes.
Morgan was substituted on once Maguire was given his marching orders and while new boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Morgan will see his game time reduced, the former Jamaica international defender is still a valued squad member.
Rodgers has suggested that Morgan is the right kind of personality to keep around the club’s dressing room as an influential figure, and with Morgan always ready to help out when required, he is a valuable squad asset.
Talking about Morgan’s new deal, as reported by the Leicester Mercury, Rodgers said:
I feel he is someone who is very important for the club.
He won’t play as much as he has done over his career, but his influence in the dressing room is very good.
He is a very humble boy. He is a guy, in the short period I have known him, he is a good guy who is really with you, he wants the team to be the best and he is ready if you need him.
I am sure that will be sorted out fairly soon.
