Leicester City have cooled their interest in signing Youri Tielemans from AS Monaco because of the French club’s asking price of £40 million, according to a report from The Telegraph.
The Belgian midfielder joined the Foxes on loan until the end of the season during the January transfer window.
Having been key for Claude Puel upon his arrival, Tielemans continued his development under Brendan Rodgers and emerged as a fans’ favourite in his short stint at the King Power Stadium.
Leicester had been expected to pursue a permanent deal for the former RSC Anderlecht star, but it seems Monaco’s valuation of the youngster has led them to reconsider.
Tielemans is understood to be valued at a huge £40 million, which would smash the Foxes’ current transfer record.
The Telegraph’s report indicates that Leicester could be keen to use this type of money to add further reinforcements to different areas of their squad, instead of spending big on just one player, despite the midfielder’s exploits on loan.
Midfielders who Leicester should consider signing if they miss out on Tielemans
Gbamin is an underrated player who has been consistently impressive for Mainz over the past couple of years. He’d be a typically shrewd signing for Leicester.
Meite is another whose progress has gone under the radar, this time in Italy. The effervescent midfielder has been in good form for Torino this term, and he’d fit in well at the King Power Stadium.
Sanson could now be ready for a move away from Marseille. The enigmatic midfielder has the makings of a top-class player, and Rodgers would likely be able to get the best out of him.
Mario has not had a great season with Inter but remains a gifted player. The former West Ham man has perennially been plagued by inconsistency, but he may just be worth taking a risk on.
Ceballos is out of favour at Real Madrid, but his quality is unquestionable. Gifted with technical ability and positional intelligence, he is a quintessential Rodgers midfielder.
