Slimani wants Sporting return, says Silva
Adrien Silva has hinted a possible return to Sporting for his Leicester team-mate Islam Slimani.
Slimani joined Leicester in 2016 from Sporting but after some disappointing displays, he was chucked out on loan to Newcastle and Fenerbahce consecutively.
Speaking to Sport TV, as cited on Goal, Silva said:
Whenever we talk, and we continue to maintain contact, he always expressed this joy every time he spoke about Portugal and Sporting. He felt good there, everyone loved him very much.
It’s a period he’s going to remember forever, it was a turning point in his life. I think so (Slimani would want to return), but it does not depend on him alone, nor on us players, but that is his own will.
Slimani also struggled to find his feet last year in the Super Lig after only playing 15 times and finding the net once. A move back to Portugal would make sense for the Algerian international as that’s where he experienced his best spell.
Slimani joined Leicester for £30 million on a five-year contract but he hasn’t adapted well to the Premier League after struggling at Newcastle’s and Leicester. A couple of injuries and a change in manager has certainly not helped Slimani but the Leicester fans definitely have expected better.
The striker has a chance to regain his confidence and prove himself once again after being named in the Algeria squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations.
