According to the Daily Mail, Leicester City target John McGinn is to be given a new long-term contract by Aston Villa.

The 24-year-old was crucial to Villa’s promotion to the Premier League last season. The Scotsman scored seven as well as registering 10 assists in his 43 Championship appearances for Villa in the second tier.

The report claims that Leicester and West Ham are both tracking the player’s development, with Brendan Rodgers a known admirer.

McGinn only signed with Villa last summer for a fee of around £3 million from Hibernian, so the newly promoted side will be eager to keep their energetic midfielder.

The Scotsman was awarded both the Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Year awards, so his relatively small price tag has proven to be a bargain.

With Youri Tielemans returning back to Monaco this summer, the Foxes are in need of another box-to-box midfielder. The Belgian was sensational during the second half of the season, but they face a battle to sign him permanently, with Manchester United also keen.
