Leicester are ‘negotiating’ with Saint-Etienne over a potential deal for Nampalys Mendy, according to L’Equipe, via Sport Witness.

Mendy has struggled to nail down a regular spot in the Foxes’ team since joining from Nice in the summer of 2016.

He returned to the Ligue 1 side on loan in 2017/18, and although he did feature 32 times for Leicester last season, he could still leave.

Saint-Etienne are being strongly linked with signing him before the transfer window closes, seeing Mendy as a ‘priority’ target.

The 27-year-old only has a year remaining on his current contract, meaning he would be allowed to leave for free next summer.

That only heightens the chances of Leicester letting him join Saint-Etienne imminently, especially with Youri Tielemans signing permanently from Monaco.

It is believed that Leicester will try to sell Mendy for close to the €16 million they paid for his services three years ago.
