Reports have claimed that Leicester are poised to sign Praet in a deal worth a fee in the region of £18m.
Praet played 37 games in all competitions for Sampdoria last season, scoring two goals from midfield.
He will become the club’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Ayoze Perez on permanent deals earlier in the window.
The 25-year-old has been capped three times by Belgium, but has struggled to break into the squad in recent years – after making his debut in 2014.
It remains to be seen whether or not he will be involved in the squad when Leicester face Wolves on the opening day of the Premier League season this weekend.
But, will he be a great signing? Here are four reasons why he will…
As we explained earlier, £18m is an excellent price for Praet. He outperformed Everton’s Andre Gomes last season, who moved to Leicester’s rivals for £4m more this summer, suggesting that the Foxes have secured a coup.
At 25-years-old, Praet has already racked up the best part of 300 career appearances and played 28 times in European competitions. His experience at the top level could prove key for Leicester if they qualify for the Europa League next season.
With 98 Serie A appearances to his name and three caps for Belgium, Praet has proven that he has what it takes to play at the top level. This suggests that he will be able to perform to a high standard for Leicester in the Premier League.
The arrival of Praet allows Brendan Rodgers to rotate his midfield in the Premier League next season. He is now able to rest Youri Tielemans and James Maddison if needed, knowing that he has a quality player to come in and start.
