Leicester City left Stamford Bridge with a point on Sunday as they picked up a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
The hosts took an early lead in the match, as Mason Mount tackled Wilfried Ndidi on the edge of the box and finished clinically into the bottom corner. The midfielder dawdled on the ball after Jonny Evans passed to him under pressure, allowing the Chelsea academy product to nip in and punish him with a cool finish.
Ndidi, however, had the last laugh as his powerful header from a James Maddison corner in the second-half secured a point for Brendan Rodgers’ side on the day.
Leicester had a number of opportunities on the counter to snatch a win, but Youri Tielemans, James Maddison and Jamie Vardy all spurned good chances in the final third.
But, what did we learn from the match? Here are four things we learned from Leicester’s draw with Chelsea on Sunday…
The midfield is overkill
Leicester do not need to have two defensive midfielders, as well as Youri Tielemans and James Maddison in the side. As good as Wilfried Ndidi and Hamza Choudhury are, it may be worth sacrificing one of them for more natural width to punish teams on the counter.
Maddison needs to work on his finishing
This isn’t the first time we have seen Maddison miss a sitter for Leicester. The Englishman’s talent is undoubted, assisting Ndidi’s goal with an excellent corner, but his composure in front of goal certainly needs work.
Maguire who?
Caglar Soyuncu was excellent yet again for Leicester as he impressed at the heart of the defence. The Turkish centre-back stood out next to Jonny Evans and was the club’s official Man of the Match after the game. He is proving that Leicester were right not to sign a replacement for Harry Maguire.
Fuchs still has it
Any concerns over Ben Chilwell’s absence were quickly washed away as veteran defender Christian Fuchs produced a fine display down the left. He constantly bombed down the wing looking to create chances on the overlap, whilst also being solid defensively.
