Leicester Moving Up in EPL Title and Top 4 Odds
Could Leicester City repeat the heroics of that fabled 2015-16 EPL title season? That’s the question on every Leicester fan’s lips after a four-match unbeaten run to start the season.
The betting markets still consider Leicester an underdog, of course, but long odds have never bothered this club. We all remember the guy who cashed out £250,000 on a 5,000/1 bet during Leicester’s 2015-16 title run. Currently, the bookies consider Leicester only a 250/1 outside chance to win the 2019-20 Premier League. That’s still a lot, but it is small change compared to what the club has done in the past.
Leicester fans are feeling bullish after moving up to third on the table following the win over Bournemouth last weekend. Is it worth putting money on Leicester to win the title or make the top 4 this season? We’ll leave that up to you to decide. Read on for all the latest odds on various Leicester EPL scenarios this season.
Leicester 250/1 for EPL Title
As mentioned above, bookies have brought Leicester City in from pre-season Premier League title odds of around 500/1 to 1,000/1 to a more bullish 250/1. Leicester is now seventh in 2019-20 premiership betting and the top title contender from out ide the traditional big six English football clubs. Not surprisingly, Manchester City and Liverpool are the runaway betting leaders and are paying 2/5 and 5/2 respectively to win this year’s premiership. Tottenham remains third-favourite despite a slow start to the season and is paying 40/1. Arsenal is paying 66/1 while Manchester United and Chelsea are paying 100/1 and 125/1 respectively.
Leicester 6/1 for Top 4 Finish
Okay, here’s where it gets really interesting. While a second Leicester City title in five seasons is a long shot, a top four finish and a return to the UEFA Champions League is actually looking quite realistic at the moment. While Man City and Liverpool have started the season the way they finished the last – by blowing away all comers – all the other big clubs are struggling. This means there are opportunities for the little guys – like Leicester.
City and Liverpool are virtually assured of claiming two of the top 4 spots, so really top 4 betting could be called “Which Clubs Will Claim the Final two top 4 spots.” Here are the odds: Tottenham, 8/15, Arsenal, 4/5, Man United, 6/4, Chelsea, 5/2, Leicester City, 6/1, Everton, 12/1, Wolves, 25/1, West Ham, 33/1.
Judging by these odds, Leicester is the club best-positioned to surprise the big boys and finish in the top 4. Importantly, Leicester is paying 2/7 to finish in the top half of the Premier League, a good indication that bookies and punters believe the club will still be competing with the big clubs at the tail-end of the season. Leicester’s closest neighbour in the top-half betting market is one of the big clubs: Chelsea.
Leicester 66/1 to be Relegated
We’re happy to report that the bookies consider Leicester a safe bet to avoid relegation, but it’s still worth mentioning here. With the exception of five clubs – Man City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Man United – 15 clubs could plausibly find themselves in relegation trouble.
After Chelsea, 250/1, Leicester is the least likely of the other 15 clubs to be relegated, at 66/1 odds. In contrast, Sheffield United, 6/5, Norwich Citiy, 5/4, and Newcastle United, 6/4, are shaping up as the likeliest clubs to be relegated.
