A late Danny Ings goal earned Southampton a deserved 2-1 win over Leicester City at King Power Stadium.
Leicester didn’t seem themselves from the start, slow on the ball and poor passes all around.
Although, it was the home side who opened the scoring. Ayoze Perez thinking quickly to play a quick free-kick down the wing to Jamie Vardy who then put in an excellent cross for Dennis Praet to score his first goal for Leicester.
The goal seemed to give Leicester confidence, and began a good spell in the game for the Foxes.
This was cut short, however, after a shot from Stuart Armstrong took a big deflection off of James Maddison to bring the Saints level.
Southampton continued to pile on the pressure after the goal and came close to increasing their lead before the break Ings hitting the bar twice.
Leicester got back into the game more in the second-half, but it was Ings who finally found the back of the net after threatening all afternoon to cap of a brilliant Southampton performance and a disappointing result of Leicester.
Here is how we rated the Leicester players:
Kasper Schmeichel - 7.5
Schmeichel was one of Leicester’s best players, he couldn’t do anything to stop the first goal after a big deflection and saved his side from a heavier defeat on multiple occasions with some superb stops.
Ricardo Pereira - 7
Ricardo played well at the back, showing great recovery pace it a few situations to get his side out of trouble. He wasn’t in his best form going forwards.
Jonny Evans - 7
Evans was solid in defence and was unlucky to have a goal ruled out for offside.
Caglar Soyuncu - 6.5
Soyuncu had probably one of his worst games for Leicester and at times looked panicked at the back, wasn’t his usual confident self.
Ben Chilwell - 6
Chilwell had another poor performance, he lost possession a lot and couldn’t get anything going in attack. He did read the game well defensivly however.
Hamza Choudhury - 6.5
Choudhury showed he has a lot of work to do to be able to fill the boots of Wilfred Ndidi, who Leicester will miss for the next few weeks.
Dennis Praet - 7.5
Praet finished well to score his first Leicester goal and did a lot of nice things throughout the game. He worked hard and put in some good tackles, his passing was hit and miss.
James Maddison - 7
Maddison struggled to get involved for a lot of the match, but when he did it was usually a positive contribution to the Leicester attack.
Ayoze Perez - 7
Perez showed good vision and thinking to take the free-kick quickly in the build-up for Leicester’s goal. He put in good effort when he was on the pitch, but a lot of the time failed to make a real impact.
Harvey Barnes - 6
Barnes was almost non-existent, he made a couple of nice passes in the first-half, but was missing for most of the game.
Jamie Vardy - 7
Vardy was given little to work with, his cross across to Praet was excellent and he pressed well throughout.
Subs: Kelechi Iheanacho - 6.5
Iheanacho didn’t threaten too much off of the bench, he did have one good chance saved and another goal disallowed for offside.
Demarai Gray - N/a
Was a late substitute.
Youri Tielemans - N/a
Was a late substitute.
